Puppies
Our Mission
Living River Border Collies exists to love, train, learn from and promote pure bred border collies. Our breeding goals are to produce physically strong, structurally sound, agile dogs who have drive, workability, trainability, endurance, confidence and an “off switch” for the peaceful times after work and play are done.
We pay attention to genetics, bloodlines, temperament, aptitude, ability and the personality of our dogs to make sure they embody the qualities we want to see in our future litters. In addition to nature, we also believe in nurture and endeavor to do all we can to raise well-adjusted, confident and balanced dogs who are as ready as we can equip them to be for the adventure that awaits them with their future families. Our dogs are all part of the family first, with their health and happiness considered before any breeding plans. Each lives inside the home with us and shares our living space 24/7 and 365.
Planned Breedings...
Next breeding is tentatively planned for 2024, accepting applications to be on the waiting list now. No deposits required until Rain is confirmed to be carrying puppies. Preference given to competition homes, homes with prior border collie experience and homes with prior dog training experience. The home selection process is also based on personalities of the pups and the needs of the interested families to help ensure a lifelong happy adventure for both.
2021 BREEDING WAS A GREAT SUCCESS!
Rio and Rain were bred in March 2021 and a beautiful litter of four puppies arrived on May 24th. All four puppies were unique right from the start, and have since grown into wonderful dogs. Each pup has taken on many strong traits from their parents as well as developing their own endearing personalities. They have proven to be intelligent, inquisitive, outgoing, observant and highly trainable. Physically they are all fast, strong and agile. Three are already training in agility, two in dock diving, one in conformation, two in rally, three in obedience and all four show strong herding instinct on ducks, sheep and goats. Initial hip tests indicate good or excellent hips, and official tests will be completed after the pups reach at least 24 months old.
2021 Litter's Arrival
Around 5am on May 24th, 2021 Rain woke me up panting in her bed. This being her first litter, I watched her carefully as the hours went by. I called my niece who recently graduated from nursing school to come join the watching Rain puppy party, knowing she wanted to be there, especially since she was wanting one of the pups herself.
Rain took her sweet time, and spent much of the day panting and laying around, but still interested in trying to chase squirrels in the yard. Finally, around 6pm Rain settled into a slightly heavier panting pattern and we got out the birthing towels.
Between 7pm and 9:15 pm the following little blessings arrived:
- gold and white female “Goldy”
- red and white female “Red”
- blue merle male “Blue
- black and white female “Blacky”
They were each so different the names didn’t need to be super creative. Each pup was free to grow into their individual personalities unaffected by their temporary litter names.
